Have you ever heard the old saying, “Cleanliness is next to godliness?” Your environment is an extension of yourself in a very real way. The next time you start to feel like your aura needs cleansed, don’t reach for a sage bundle or quartz crystal right away; grab some soap and a scrub brush instead. You might be surprised to discover just how much psychic impact a session of traditional cleaning actually has.

You Are Part of Your Environment

If you are surrounded by mess and chaos, you are naturally going to feel chaotic and ill-at-ease. This is just a basic part of energy science. After all, “like attracts like” is one of the fundamentals of sympathetic magic. This is why you can’t afford to ignore their physical surroundings.

There are a few signs that suggest it’s time to cleanse your aura. These signs include:

  • Feeling run down or fatigued

  • Feeling emotionally drained

  • Feeling easily distracted

  • A mysterious sensation of energetic contamination

  • Feeling like you can’t let go of a situation or person

A Few Cleaning Basics

Sometimes people choose to cleanse their aura after being in a place filled with bad energy or after interacting with people who give off a strange vibe. Others choose to make aura cleansing a part of their regular spiritual or magical practice, timing cleansings to occur with the new or full moon. No matter why you choose to cleanse your aura, you can make cleaning your physical environment part of your practice.

As you pursue a higher state of cleanliness and enlightenment, pay special attention to these trouble spots.

Keep all visual spaces free of grime: Obvious grime accumulates on tables and chairs, and windows and mirrors are quick to start looking grimy. And don’t forget to dust!

Clean where you walk: Make sure to vacuum at least once a week, and footprints and spills should be immediately mopped up. Keep shoe areas like closets and mudrooms uncluttered and organized. Anything that doesn’t belong on the floor should be restored to its proper place.

Pay extra attention to sanitary spaces: This means paying special attention to your kitchen. Keep food prep areas wiped down, and be sure to use a good disinfectant. Appliances, especially stainless steel, tend to accumulate fingerprints and food splashes, so keep an eye on those as well. If you detect any bad odors, don’t get out the room freshener — find the root cause and eliminate it before it becomes a potential health hazard.

Strictly enforce bathroom hygiene: Next to the kitchen, the bathroom is one of the dirtiest places in your house. Take time every week to scrub the toilet inside and out. Wipe down counters and sinks, and scrub off hard water deposits as soon as they appear. Scrub the tub and take care of any mildew that you see.

Don’t forget the small stuff:

  • Picture frames

  • Baseboards

  • Fan blades

  • Air vents

  • Ceiling lights

Visualize the accumulation of dirt, clutter, and other messes in your home as negative energy, that when you have finished cleaning and organizing are now leaving your home. Imagine your aura being similarly wiped clean of contamination from the clutter and buildup of things in your home and life.

An Extension of Your Aura

Your physical environment is very much an extension of your personal aura. With a little practice, you will be able to keep both nice and clean. You will enjoy the energetic benefits that come from having a clean, clear aura that is uncluttered by negativity; your environment will be similarly free from unpleasant negativity that weighs you down and makes you feel stressed and unhappy.
